SAM Learning Ltd. is using EstimIt technology in conjunction with its SAM Learning Plus service, which aims to engage teachers in eLearning. With EstimIt teachers are able to more effectively assess students' current performance and indicate performance on exams and tests at a single point in time. SAM Learning provides the UK’s most popular and proven online test revision and practice services. SAM Learning offers comprehensive online learning courses for SATs and GCSEs. Its services are currently used by more than half of English state secondary schools and over 1000 primary schools With a massive data set of over 800,000 students, 92 LAs, 3,000 schools and 3 million hours usage, SAM Learning needed something to assist all teachers using its SAM Learning Plus service in differentiating individual student performance. "The ability to differentiate individual student performance presented us with the toughest challenge," says Ken Masters, SAM Learning Professional Support Director. This year, the online educational company SAM Learning has taken care to keep its reputation as 'The Leader in eLearning'. With the launch of SAM Learning's service SAM Learning Plus in 2006(with an aim to better engage teachers in embedding eLearning) came the company's introduction of EstimIt technology. To make the introduction of EstimIt as easy as possible, SAM Learning notified and trained staff, and sent information and user packs to its SAM Learning Plus subscribers. EstimIt technology was a welcomed addition to the SAM Learning Plus service as it offered immediate access to important student data. Information provided by EstimIt is an indicator of the student's grade level at a certain point in time, based on current student performance compared to national and or class averages. This is most useful to teachers as they want to offer their students the best support they can, given their level and speed of learning. In addition to providing teachers with a good indication of where their students are in terms of grade level, it is also helpful to create a feeling of control within the eLearning curriculum. Ken Masters explains, "Teachers are able to assign homework and exams in an appropriate level based on this new information provided by EstimIt . It is also a great improvement in the way that students learn. They will now be able to receive the type of work they need in order to excel in whatever level they are in." As SAM Learning continues to use EstimIt technology, it will be able to provide all its 800,000 students and 3,000 schools with a better service, further embedding eLearning through teachers and educational staff whilst also providing students with a more personalised and purposeful online education. |
